Same with Diablo 3, if immortal was named anything besides diablo, it would probably be more accepted, but the fact its predecessor was monumental in the advancement of ARPGs, any title bearing the name Diablo has large expectations. So in conclusion, they hyped up a diablo release (seemingly to sell tickets), ignored a lot of criticism on art direction and atmosphere to make a watered down version of diablo 3, partnering with a foreign mobile game company known for game breaking micro transactions in their game, and pushed it as the next big thing for diablo. Just the presentation was off putting: “nothing brings families together like slaying demons!”.

To further the watering down they replaced assets like skeletons that aren’t allowed in China (allegedly), and scraped the witch doctor (possibly to pander to China again).
